Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka

A web system for the Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka covering day-to-day work: accounting, the public website, payments, and a simple LMS. Built to pull those pieces into one place staff can actually use.

I handled this end to end: talking to people from different departments, writing a proposal from their needs, then building the frontend, API, and PostgreSQL setup, plus basic security and hosting. Requirements kept shifting, so a lot of the job was staying flexible and shipping something usable without overbuilding.

Design

Tried to freshen the UI without leaving their brand behind. Prioritized a straightforward stack and layout so ongoing maintenance stays light and costs stay down for a professional institute that does not need a bloated product.

Challenges

Different departments want different things, and the goals change. Hardest part was keeping scope honest while still covering accounting, payments, the public site, and LMS reasonably well.

MyTravelGuide

Travel booking can get messy fast - guides, dates, languages, last-minute plans. In a small team I worked the traveler-facing app and a chunk of the API, including the security and CI bits that usually show up late.

Design

Route planning and booking felt like tools, not forms. Maps, slots, and status in one continuous product surface.

Challenges

25-language support, alerts, and OWASP soft spots. Learned that security defaults early beat rewrites later.

Nikaland

Nikaland

A modern plantation management system with a clean black and white UI for projects, employees, attendance, and transactions. Built full-stack so field operations and desks could share one honest source of truth.

Node/Express + MongoDB API and a React frontend (Tailwind, React Router, Axios). Projects, employees, attendance, and transactions end to end.

Design

Clean black and white UI intentionally plain: dense operational screens, strong type hierarchy, no chrome that gets in the way of farm work.

Challenges

Modeling plantation workflows so desk and field both trust the data. Learned that clarity in data model beats clever UI every time.

Artistic.

Research project

Artistic looks at pragmatic features in child speech for ASD screening - the kind of problem where accuracy matters and noise is guaranteed. I worked on the models and the FastAPI path around them so the results could show up in a real interface, not just a notebook.

Built the FastAPI surface, OAuth2, real-time inference, and ensemble ML that hit 87.2% accuracy / 0.92 AUC.

Design

API-first: versioned models, speaker diarization, Hugging Face hub - not a notebook taped to production.

Challenges

Pragmatic speech features are noisy. Learned to ship evaluation with the model, not after the demo.
